Weekly Word Count: 3, 212
Next Week’s Goal: 3,000
Total for 2025: 24,092
How Did I Do? My weekly word count should be much higher—5000 to 7000 words—but I know it’s not possible at the moment, so I feel good about this week.
Writing Thought of the Week
I believe that writing by hand and using an electronic device each offer their unique benefits. Handwriting can feel more personal, slows down the thought process, and enhances creativity. It’s a great way to stay away from digital distractions. On the other hand, typing is undeniably efficient. It saves time, allows for easy editing, and is especially helpful when working on something as complex as a novel.
What do you prefer, writing by hand or the convenience of digital tools?
Whether you write 100 words or 5,000, every step forward counts.
Together, we can make 2025 our best writing year yet. 🖋️😃

Good afternoon, Olivia. Here's a status update:
Writing: Last week I started to write "Dates for Donuts". I only wrote 325 words, but I wrote them while in the company of others. I had taken part in a session hosted The Remote Body, which hosts a Zoom call every Thursday at 9 am my time where chronically ill and disabled people work on crafts and other creative ventures.
In a different Zoom call (with RestFest) I wrote a piece of poetry which I did share as a note here as well as on Instagram. You might be familiar with a poet named Jennae Cecelia, who wrote a poem where she took a younger version of herself out for coffee. My poem is my take on that.
Reading: I read one chapter of "Jane Eyre", which puts me at the end of Chapter 11.
With regards to your thought - my hands cramp quite easily when handling a pen/pencil, so I prefer using digital tools.
You’re the second person I’ve read recently to write about hand writing. I have an idea for a story and I think I’ll take this approach, even though my handwriting has deteriorated somewhat.
Worked a little on the novella, revised a short story (and submitted it to a lit website!) and started a new Substack post.
