Writing Thought of the Week

TEN WRITING TIPS

• Show up, even if it’s just for ten minutes. That’s how you create momentum.

• Don’t wait until you feel ready. You might never be.

• If the beginning feels too difficult, write a random phrase, paragraph, or scene.

• Don’t edit while drafting.

• Eavesdrop on the world. There’s a lot of material.

• Remember your characters need to be three-dimensional, otherwise they will be boring.

• Read your genre, and read outside your genre. READ!

• When you’re stuck, try writing in a different location.

• Don’t fall in love with your words; fall in love with your story.

• Celebrate the pages you did write, and be kind to yourself.
